An engaging symbiosis of contrasts and likenesses

Progressive wood architecture paired with handsome land villa structure

The challenge

Completely refurbish an old villa, including a new roof with high-quality wood-fibre sarking, and a new wall on the top floor. Integrate a contemporary, linear new building, whose principal building material is wood, next to the older structure. The same architect firm and woodworking contractor, both very partial to wood, performed both renovation and new build work with the objectives of achieving the best quality of living and highest efficiency.

Our solution

To the extent that the older structure allows, bring the wall and roof insulation up to par with modern standards by using various high-quality wood-fibre insulation boards. For the new building, the plan called for walls clad with GUTEX Thermowall© ETICS to ensure the best protection possible. Thanks to its superior rain and wind resistant performance, GUTEX Multiplex-top© was the choice for the roof’s sarking over the rafters.

Project features

New building
KKFW 70, aluminium standing seam roofing, three different roof pitches. 6-m² solar thermal system for both hot water and heating assistance. Wood-fibre insulation: GUTEX 60-mm Thermowall for the walls; GUTEX 35-mm Multiplex-top for the roof

Old building
New electrical system, replacement of heating and plumbing, improved energy efficiency thanks to the insulation retrofit, which included wood-fibre insulation, double-glazed, wood windows, etc.
